I just repeated part of this experiment and got puzzling results. I have two MOTs. First I measured the resistance of the coils. MOT A had a resistance of 0.6 Ω across the primary and 89.5 Ω across the secondary. MOT B's coils were 1.2 Ω and 100.8 Ω, respectively. I put a clamp meter around one secondary lead of MOT A and set peak hold. I connected 120 V across the secondary. Let's see, 120 V / 89.5 Ω = 1.34 A. Allowing for impedance, I expected about 1 A. I got zero detectable current. I tried the same thing with the primary. 120 V / 0.6 Ω = 200 A. I expected peak hold to catch something before the breaker tripped. The breaker didn't trip, and I got zero again. I left the primary connected for several minutes, and it didn't even get warm. I had saved the bulb from the microwave's interior light (20 W incandescent). I clamped the meter around one lead and applied 120 V. The bulb lit brightly, but no current detected. I wondered if there were a problem with my clamp meter. I (nervously) tried connecting the 10 A port on my more expensive DMM in series with the secondary and applied 120 V. Again, nothing. Switched ports and range to mA. Nothing. Connected one meter to measure voltage and the other current. Voltage fluctuated between 122-123 VAC rms with zero current. Tried the primary with the same result. Disconnected the power and measured the resistance on each coil. No change. I repeated all the above with MOT B, and got the same results. At one point, two of my test leads accidentally touched. The breaker tripped immediately. Any clue what's happening here?

Actually the lionKing defender siren made in china is now the largest, but doesn't hold the record for loudest siren because it makes the same decible rating as the chyrlser siren. Since the chrysler siren came first, it still holds the record.

I remember the old Seagate 20 and 40 meg HD's, used to have to slam them on the desktop to get them to spin up when the spindle grease dried up so we could copy the data off. Back when you could just xcopy off all of the files intact... The buzz when it came on told me it was a stepper motor model. Used to have an old IBM 10 meg MFM drive, alas while I was deployed, my house was literally emptied, even my hot water heater got stolen. Great welcome home gift! Also, every inch of copper was stolen from the house, pipes and a lot of wiring. I do recall that some SCSI drives required a spindle spinup command from the controller, with some drives having a jumper to override that command. Usually used in arrays that otherwise could have a SCSI bus hang as drives initialized at odd times and you'd then have to wait for a bus timeout and the next device getting checked by the controller. I remember one other thing that was visible, when they went with the thin film platter coating. Different color and if the film failed, you'd see where the film caused a head crash, stripping more of the film in microscopic divots.

Hey, thanks for saving my life! Was seconds from cracking into our beloved LG unit to replace the magnetron and decided to check RUclips for pointers real quick-like. You put the fear of god in me so I found a local countertop MV expert (easier said than done) and he did it + the turntable motor for $100. Money well spent, I'd say.

While I don't EDC a toolbag, the most useful tool I've found while working in laptop/handheld electronics repair is the spudger. It's just a simple plastic stick with a flat end and a pointy end used to pry apart cases and manipulate components without damaging them. Turns out there are a tone of situations where I want to do that. I also use them as a scraper when cleaning (I even keep one in the kitchen for washing dishes), and I've even used them as stir sticks. They do tend to wear out relatively quickly, but since they're cheap and come in bulk packs I treat them as disposables. I bought a 50 pack off Amazon for under $15, and I can't recommend them enough. I'll post a link to them in a comment below this one.

(6000) + (-6000) = 0. The primary is single phase. Even a capacitor in risk of becoming a bomb can only theoretically phase shift 90 degrees.

Chris, I don't know why you got into NSTs, but I needed to know about them in that I have a small neon sign collection. Learned about GTO wire and wiring up and mounting the neon etc. Had a couple neon star lights (from a drive in theater) stop working and that is when I found you and how to test a high voltage transformer. I found the transformer to the stars had died and one of my extra transformers was also bad. Thanks for the clue on how to test these old monsters. Also, from your lesson on how to read the labels on the transformers, I see most of mine are from the 50's (Acme brand!). Jim
